School Support Staff Day

Manaiakalani

    Manaiakalani

Today was the Manaiakalani Film Festival Day. The theatre was packed with children like me and Genevieve.
There were other children from Point England School, Glen Taylor School and Glen Innes School.

Our class was represented by Soane who introduced our movie “Richness in Diversity” to the audience.
We also watched some twenty other movies from the four schools.

I learnt a lot about planet earth, pollution, friendship and resilience from these movies.
I felt very excited and I can not wait to see all the movies presented by the other schools in our cluster

Book week in schools

This week was a book week. There was a play performed in our school hall on Tuesday.

The play was about the Treasure Hunt that has been written by Craig Christie.

There were two tribes living on an island. These two tribes blamed each other for stealing each other's songs.

The Treeland tribe was led by George and the Seaview tribe was led by Jessica. These two characters teamed up to solve the problem about the lost treasure that was their song.

The problem was solved when they were able to put the torn map together and work out how to get to the treasure.  They had to read three different books to solve the problem.

I really enjoyed this play because both the characters were very smart and talented. They sang very well and were also very hilarious.

Thank you, Sam and Lydia, for coming to our school. We hope to see you again next year.

ANZACS Acrostic poem

ANZAC is a day we celebrate the brave

New Zealand soldiers marched through the darkness of Gallipoli

Zealous soldiers fought for their country

Australians first landed at Gallipoli in Turkey

Coming to an end, many lost their lives, we use these poppies
for remembrance of the ANZACS.

Selfless citizens who sacrifized their lives to protect us all.

Maths - Subtraction

WALT: solve subtraction problems using various strategies

Problems
strategy
Answer
294-167=
294-167=
I can not subtract 7 ones from 4 ones because 7 is greater than 4, so I will borrow one ten from 9 tens and add it to 4 ones and I will have 14 ones, so 14-7=7

Since I borrowed one ten from 9 tens, I am left with 8 tens, so
80-60=20

200-100=100
So 100+20+7= 127

=127
   2) 384-158=
384-158=
I can not subtract 8 ones from 4 ones because 8 is greater than 4,  so I borrow a 10 from the 8 and its goes down to a 7 so I add the 10 to the 4 ones and the number is 14 so I have enough to take away the 8 ones so 14-8=6

Now that I have borrowed the 10 from the 80, I am now left with 7 tens so 70-50=20

300-100=200
200+20+6=

=226

After doing two subtraction problems, I feel confident solving subtraction problems using place value partitioning

My fun weekend

On the weekend I had slept over at my nanas house for the night.
And my nana bought her nana over to our house and I was so excited to meet our grandma.
She was so nice and also she brought over some of her sea food and a lot of fruits for us to eat she gave us some apples, pineapples, pears and some peaches.

She was so nice she even gave us 10$ for me to spend.
So when I earned my money I went up to ask my dad if he could take me to the store to get  me something to spend on and went home for the next day.

On Sunday I had to go home and wait for school tomorrow.

My trip out with me and my mum

Plan:
:Our family day out
:On Saturday
: Going to the netball tryouts and swimming pools.
: In our van
:Having lunch and morning tea
: Going home

My family and I woke up for my netball tryouts. When I started netball I made some new friends. They were nice and friendly and also my mum was happy for me because I made some new friends.

Next of playing Netball we had morning tea.  Mum made some chicken and mayo sandwich with spring rolls.
After eating our morning tea we went to the Panmure swimming pools with my whole whanau. We played some games like tag, volleyball and whoever could swim the farthest.

Meanwhile the others were playing games at the pools, I asked my mum if she could please go and pay for me to go down the slide, but she said only if I do my strokes from the end and back, I said ‘yay’ in an exciting way. After that my mum bought me a slide ticket so that I could go down. I went to the big water slide and while I was walking up the stairs I felt a little bit scared because it goes from blue to pitch black, but I actually got used to it and went up again, again and again.

After our swimming we went to the cafe to have some lunch. We all had savouries and hot delicious potato chips. It was so delicious, we could not stop eating the delicious food. By 6:00pm my mum said that we have to go home because there is school tomorrow. My family and I went home to watch our movies on our phones and got our clothes, lunches and bags ready for our new day.

It was an awesome and amazing day. I wish our family night could happen again.

Water fun day

One sunny day at Glenbrae school we had water fun day. I was very excited to get wet and have fun. Me and my friends got changed into our house colour clothes. Then we went in class and got ready for the water fun day to start. The first game we played was on the water slide. Miss Atuahiva called out the instructions for the water slide. First we had to grab a little cup that had holes in it, and filled it up with water, then slide down the slide and take the cup of water to your house colour bin.

The next game was walk the plank it was a little bit easier as I heard Miss Smith explain the instructions. The first thing we had to do was to walk on the plank and grab a cup, then fill it up and we had to run to the house colour bin. When I saw our team Rata bin it was half way up to the the top of the bin and I got so excited and ran back and cheered for my special team Rata.

After walk the plank we played three legged race. Three legged race is a game with two buddies that’s trying to get the cup of water into there house colour bin. Me and Victoria choose to be partners for the game Miss Tofa rang the bell then me and Victoria ran as fast to take the cup to the bin. When Victoria took the cup from the bucket I blocked the cup careful with my hands to make a lid on top of the cup. It was quite hard for me to run but I done it as carefully as I can.

Next the game was named Spongebob wet pants it is a game with a sponge that’s socked in a little bucket and the front leader has to grab the sponge and pass from over to under without squeezing the water out of the sponge.  Second you squeeze Spongebob into the bin as hard so that you get all the water out into your house colour bin.

Finally the last game was Zig zag, It was a really hard game to play because we ran down the hill and back up. My friends and I were cheering for everyone who went to put the water in the house colour bin.

Finally it was time to see which house won and it was Kowhai. They got to have a swim in our pool while the others that did not win, had  to have ice blocks.

I wish I can do the water fun day again.
