How to make your compost

(How to make your compost)

A compost is a bin filled with scraps and worms, the worms are there to keep the soil nice and moist and the scraps are there to feed the worms, composts are there to improve soil, increase the amount of oxygen, increase activity and improve fertiliser use by plants.

First, you are going to find a place where you're going to put your compost...

Once you have found a place, you can collect soil with worms so that the worms can moist the soil...

Now that  you have all your soil, you build your bin or buy one for your compost.

Now that you have bought you a compost bin you take all the soil and then layer it up and add leaves.

After you have put everything together, collect scraps then put them into a compost.

Once everything is in your compost you now have your compost!

What I felt coming school

Today while I was walking I felt like there were butterflies in my stomach. When I was walking up the hill I could see some teachers so I went and said good morning and walked to class.

When I reached my classroom one of my( friends came outside and told me to stand on the long yellow line so I did when she said to stay one meter away ) -she sounded like a doctor - I felt happy because my classmates were here and so were my friends from the other classes.

I felt…..
Happy, proud, and excited when I first saw all my classmates. But I also felt sad because we weren't allowed to give our friends a hug and even handshakes.

But mostly…..
(I enjoyed being in my classroom with all my classmates)

So that is what I felt when I was coming to school.

Room 10's Google Hangouts

                 Room 10’s Google Hangouts!

During the lockdowns, we have managed to learn from the comfort of our homes through Google Hangouts with some of our classmates from room 10. My classmates were Victoria, Undreanna, Avania, Jasel and more. They were so helpful because we got to talk to each other and tell each other what to do and how they were doing.

I’ve done a lot of work during this lockdown. I was able to  present my writing, maths, reading, inquiry, and art. I've also done some commenting on the Blogs of our buddy class from Pompallier Catholic School and Paroa School. I have also commented on Room 7’s Blogs.

Learning from home was very good because I felt calm and focussed.
I  had some time to edit my  work and I could still see my friends through the Hangout .My friends were able to talk to me and give me feedback on how I was doing. I have felt happy and focused on what I need to do to continue my learning in isolation from home with my whanau and friends.

Be safe! And Happy Easter!

The tunnel

This is about a girl finding her way out of the tunnel...

One hour before finding the hoof prints in soft earth, she had followed the trail of broken twigs and
occasional nibbled leaf until she had located it. Creeping slowly and quietly, not making even the
slightest
sound, she remained undetected.

She had stumbled across the mysterious circle in a cleaning in the forest and watched as the deer
approached them. With a slight twitch of its ears, the deer stepped indifferently through the circle, and
vanished completely. The girl let out gasp, walked towards to investigate, she put  her hands and then
vanished to another world she gasped like she has never did , once she saw she had vanished to a
different state of the world she fainted.

When she woke up she was in this house with people talking about her. She didn't even have her stuff
with her,  she thought the people might hurt her. She tried to run for the exit but the people stopped her
from running away. They had shouted ‘’STOP!’’ the girl looked back and said in a shy voice ‘’w-why?’’
they said you might get lost and get hurt so she stayed and she got to know them. There were people
who helped kids or teenagers or even adults. They told the girl all about them. There was a little girl
named Lala and her mum  named Nesha and her friends were named Hunter, Andrew and Tom. They
were very nice people. So the girl stayed for dinner and she told them how she got here and they were
so interested in her story and also sad at the same time.

She told them she had to leave tomorrow, but in the morning to find her way back home. Her parents
were either scared or really worried. The next day the girl woke up really early but so did Hunter so
they both went looking for the girls way back home. Hours later trying to find the circle she came in
they finally found it the girl was really happy and excited to see you parents again she said she is gonna
tell them all about them Hunter was really happy for her he said ‘’Come back and visit us whenever I’ll
be waiting for you’’ ‘’okay’’ the girl replied in a happy voice. Then she went back home to tell her parents
all about her day.

Why is our library important in our community"

WALT: Write an explanation
“Why is our library important in our community”

A library is a place where people go to read about many different things according to what they are interested in.

The GI Library is important because our library can show the world that our library is full
of a lot of history about the whole world. It has books about so many different subjects.

Our library shows us a lot about our countries and about what our country was like back in the days when
the Europeans came. It has History books about our past so people can read about it.

Libraries are here to help kids learn how to read and to help them understand about the world. Children spend
a lot of time in the school holidays to read and have fun doing artwork and drama.

Libraries are useful for other things eg: using computers or burrowing things, or it can be used for space,
meditation or an adult or child can practice lifelong learning with the help of silence

Our library is a very important place in our community because it is a meeting place for different things like
reading, meetings, meditation and holiday programmes for children like me.

Term 1 Week 1- Math activities

There are 8 pencils in a box. AJ has 15 boxes of pencils.
How many pencils are altogether?

15 x 8 =

10 x 8 = 80

5 x 8 = 40

80 + 40 = 120

To solve this problem I had use place value partitioning, so there was 8 pencils in a box and there are 15 boxes of pencils. I split 15 which made a 10 and 5 then I multiplied 10 from 8 which was 10 x 8 and my answer was 80 then I multiplied 5 and 8 and my answer is 40 so 80 + 40 is 120 so AJ has 120 pencils altogether.

Week 1 of Term 1 2020

Week 1 of Term 1 - 2020

Hi, my name is Taijah, My first day at school was exciting because I was in the same class with the same teacher

This year I am in Room 10 and my teacher is Mr. Nath and I am in year 7 now. I am very happy to be in room 10 because I was in the same class last year and I think I could help and encourage the year 6 students that are now in Room 10.

My goals for this year are to become better in maths and writing and make our students feel safe and welcomed in their new class since I have been chosen to be the class monitor for 2020.

I would like to become a good class monitor and be able to improve in playing a lot more sports so that I can make my Nana happy because she was a sports teacher before.
